The wines of Fattoria di Felsina, Tuscany, Italy
Strada Chiantigiana 484, 53019 Castelnuovo, Beraradenga, Italy

An estate with a very good reputation, which the two reds I tried lived up to better than the white. Tuscany seems to be a happening place…

'I Sistri' Chardonnay 1998
Muted nose leads to a palate showing soft fruit, good concentration and a mineralic streak. Very restrained. Good/very good

'Vigneto Rancia' Chianti Classico Reserva 1997
Single estate Chianti Classico from a top vintage. Deep red colour with a dusty, herby nose displaying a nice ripe edge. Concentrated, balanced palate has firm tannins and bright cherry fruit. Very good+

Fontalloro 1997
100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard. Impressive stuff. Concentrated red/black colour. Huge, exotic nose with ripe fruit and a menthol edge from the new oak. On the palate this is hugely concentrated: rich, ripe and full with firm tannins, sweet red fruits and an exotic edge. Finishes with a nice bitter savouriness. Very good/excellent
