A separate winery owned by Domaine Vistalba, Fabre Montmayou
was established in the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza in 1992. It’s
a quality wine region at an altitude of 1150 m, and these wines are
fashioned in a fairly serious non-fruit-forward style. Restrained and
not too modern. Nice.
Fabre Montmayou Chardonnay 2001
90% stainless steel fermented, 10% in oak. Crisp, creamy nose.
Palate is nutty and tight knit with good intensity and ripe tropical
fruit notes. Very good+
Fabre Montmayou Caberet Sauvignon 2000
Deep coloured. A slightly restrained nose leading to a savoury
palate with a herby edge to the muted blackcurrant fruit. Already
showing some evolution: a slightly old fashioned style. Very good
Fabre Montmayou Malbec 2000
This deep coloured wine is dense and herby, with nicely balanced
spicy-edged fruit. A savoury, restrained style. Very good/excellent
Fabre Montmayou Merlot 2000
Deep coloured. Some sweetness to the liquoricey, blackcurrant
fruit on the nose. The palate has a nice herbal character with firm
tannins and lots of structure. Quite a big European-styled wine. Very
good/excellent
Fabre Montmayou Grand Vin 1999
Deep, rich intense nose with herbal-tinged ripe berry fruit. Quite
complex and restrained. The palate is dense with a good concentration
of savoury fruit, backed up with firm tannins and acidity. Very
elegant. Very good/excellent
