Marketing and Selling Stormhoek Wines

I've mentioned Stormhoek before on this blog a few times. They're the ones using blogs to market their wines, enlisting the help of blogger and cartoonist Hugh MacLeod to assist them in this goal. I've just tasted their 2005 Pinotage, which I'll blog on separately, but here's an interview with Hugh and Jason Korman about their strategy.

Personally I think the wines are average at best, and I have tasted the whole range.
Amused me when this guy states"the Cape winelands are so REMOTE" Actually, there are daily direct flights to Atlanta from Cape Town and hence in terms of time, the Cape winelands are no more remote than the Rhone or Champagne etc etc

The Stormhoek site seems to be a lot about marketing and very little about wine. I find it cynical. There so many other things happening like podcasts about wine from tasters that are really interesting. I.E Grape Radio. I struggle to find how what they are doing is relevent or interesting in any way.

They seem to be all about just another way to sell, not something different or inspiring in itself.

Have I missed something?
