KT and The Falcon
Exciting new producer from the Clare Valley, South Australia

KT is Kerri Thompson (pictured), a talented winemaker with a passion for Riesling and the Falcon is viticulturalist Stephen Farrugia. Kerri worked with Leasingham in the Clare for 8 years, and is now winemaker with Crabtree. KT and The Falcon are now doing about 1000 cases a year, most of which is Riesling, but there’s also a Shiraz

Vineyards are managed along organic lines with some biodynamic preparations being used. Kerri says that using biodynamics, she’s harvesting a week or two earlier, with lower alcohols, even though picking is by flavour. For example, with the Shiraz that has just been released is at 13.5% alcohol, and in the Clare it’s not unusual to find Shiraz at 15%.

In addition to the 20 acre home farm, located between Watervale and Leasingham, grapes are sourced from the Peglidis and Churinga vineyards in Watervale.

KT and The Falcon Melva Watervale Riesling 2008 Clare Valley
Off-dry, this has lovely crisp citrusy character. It’s pure and elegant with nice texture. Fresh with nice freshness, although it is currently a little simple – could do with more complexity, which it will probably pick up with age. 89/100 ($A28)

KT and The Falcon Peglidis Vineyard Riesling 2008 Clare Valley
Very attractive and appealing woth crisp, almost spicy limey fruit. Fine and expressive with lovely precision and lemony freshness. Complex and delicious with lovely structure. 92/100 ($A35)
