Highlights: Greatwall Five Star Cabernet Sauvignon
China is making a lot of wine, but I don’t get to try Chinese wine very often. I’ve had a few mixed experiences, but this ambitious wine – in a big heavy bottle – was quite impressive. It’s a wine that won a Gold medal and the Chinese trophy in the International Wine Challenge.
Greatwall Five Star Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Hebei, China
13.5% alcohol. Lush and sweet with bold blackcurrant fruit and some grainy structure. It has a nice green character that is carried well by the sweet fruit. Sweetly fruited and concentrated with a savoury gravelly edge to the fruit. Very plush, but not over the top. 92/100
