This is brilliant stuff. At the Oddbins mixed case price of £16 it’s really good value; it’s certainly worth the regular £20 price. One to serve to those who haven’t yet woken up to the English sparkling wine revolution.
Ridgeview Cavendish 2007 Sussex, England
A traditional method sparkling wine with 25% Chardonnay, 34% Pinot Noir and 41% Pinot Meunier. 12% alcohol. Yellow colour with a hint of gold. Warm, subtly toasty, gently nutty nose. The palate is complex, broad, a little toasty and has nice acidity. Fresh and fruity but also complex and quite serious. May well develop in bottle. 92/100 (£20 Oddbins)
I enjoyed the Ridgeview wines recently, and thought the best was from the black grapes (so this one, but particularly the Knightsbridge).
We sell the Ridgeview wines in the On Trade and I can concur – they are the only English wines I have tried which REALLY deliver at their price point. Lots of people don’t mind paying for the fact that English wines are more expensive to produce but Ridgeview are great value and great quality against their competitive set.
