Sweet wine season, 9: Hidalgo Triana, an amazing PX sherry

This is amazing stuff. Totally mind-blowing. Very, very sweet and concentrated, but really complex, too.

Hidalgo Pedro Ximenez Triana VORS 30 Years Old Sherry
Amazing stuff: rich and intense with notes of treacle, tar, figs and raisins on the nose. The palate is viscous and intensely sweet with a lovely treacle and fig savouriness as well as bold, sweet raisin and fruitcake flavours. Real complexity with a long finish. 95/100 (UK agent Mentzendorff, retail c. £40 for 50 cl)

  1. I can’t find this wine on Wine-Searcher. I’ve been on Mentzendorf’s site and they only list the “standard” – for want of a better word – Triana. I have a hard copy of their current list too and it’s not in there. Where did you try it, out of interest, and do you actually know anyone who is retailing it?

I am a new subscriber btw – excellent work!
