Chile’s Cloudy Bay revisited

When I tried this wine back in November, I dubbed it Chile’s Cloudy Bay. It’s a startlingly fresh, pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc from a new cool-climate region of Chile, and the best thing about it is that it doesn’t rely on methoxypyrazine (the green pepper/grassy character that comes from chemicals present in unripe grapes) for its personality.

Casa Silva Cool Climate Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Coastal Colchagua, Chile
13.5% alcohol. Fresh and aromatic with grapefruit, lime and a hint of passionfruit on the nose. Almost salty. The palate is bracing and fresh with high acidity and taut, crisp, nettly grapefruit and citrus notes. Very pure and intense. 91/100 (£12.95 Averys, Michael Jobling, Guildford Wine Co, MW2 wines)

  1. Live ,just round the corner from this vineyard and haven’t seen this wine at all locally. I read your earlier report and have been keen to try this one, will have to look a bit harder as I would love to find another brilliant local Sauvignon blanc. It’s a great area to live(hic)!
