Our Devon excursion has extended itself by a few days. After a couple of days of lodging with family, we’ve moved out to a camp site in Croyde. It’s very pleasant, quiet and has views of the sea. What more could you want? (A bit pricey for just a pitch, though, at £36 a night, three night minimum stay).

A couple of wines worth reporting on. Babich Black Label Sauvignon Blanc 2009 Marlborough was much better than I’d have expected. Lovely vibrant gooseberry and grapefruit characters, with some fruity richness. This was enjoyed over lunch at Saunton Sands Cafe. Then last night, a deliciously fruity Rolling Shiraz 2007 from Cumulus Wines in Australia’s Central Ranges (New South Wales). This was £14 in a pub in Braunton, which is pretty good value, I reckon. Fresh cool climate style with pure berryish fruit.

Weather was filthy this morning, but has now cleared up and we are getting the promised sunny spells. Pictured below is yesterday’s kite flying session on Saunton beach. It was cloudy and cold.
