Richard Kelley MW popped round tonight to drop off a mixed case of Cotat. He also brought along two wines that he has sourced himself from South Africa and which have been bottled under the name ‘The Liberator’. These are small parcels of wines from illustrious producers at very good prices, and the sources must remain confidential. I popped open the red tonight, and it’s delicious.
The Liberator ‘The Francophile #1′ Syrah 2009 Voor Paardeberg, South Africa
14.5% alcohol. Deep coloured, this is a dense, ripe, focused red wine with structured blackberry and black cherry fruit. Concentrated with nice grippy tannins and a rich mouthfeel, this is a lovely robust expression of Syrah, with really dense fruit. Nicely savoury. 90/100 (Available from The Wine Society in the UK priced £9.95)
