Our Fathers Barossa Shiraz 2014

our fathers barossa shiraz

Our Fathers is a small production Barossa Shiraz made by Giles Cooke MW of Alliance wine. The inspiration for this wine was that Giles wanted to give something back. In 2013 his father died, and the idea behind his label was to donate the profits to appropriate charitable causes. Then, in 2014 Giles’ mother died, and the following year Giles himself suffered a heart attack. All these life hurdles gave him further commitment to this charitable impulse.  The wine? The emphasis is on subtlety rather than power and it’s really impressive. Available for £25 per bottle.

Our Fathers Barossa Shiraz 2014 Australia
13.5% alcohol. Made from 125 year old vines in Moppa, with 35% whole bunch, and 18 months in older oak. Beautifully packaged. Sweet, lively raspberry and plum notes with some blackcurrant, too. Fresh with a complex savoury baking and notes of herbs, pepper and ginger. Nicely supple and quite elegant, this is made in a warm, ripe style as befits the Barossa, but with plenty of silky elegance and a supple personality. 94/100

  1. It’s often said “we need to tell the story behind the wine”.
In a few short paragraphs you did; and he does.
A wine with a strong story, and by your score a very good one at that.
    Always room for another angle.
    Amen!
