Making Sherry sexy: Equipo Navazos

Equipo Navazos make mindblowing Sherries. I’m drinking one at the moment, and it’s a life-enhancing experience. It’s Manzanilla No 16 – powerful, intense with nuts, herbs, minerals, citrus notes and a distinct salty tang – even a hint of cheese. Complex and really hard to capture in words, this is one of two bottles kindly given to me by Oregonian wine writer Lisa Shara Hall on her recent visit to the UK.

I’ve just written up Equipo Navazos on the main wineanorak site. If you get a chance to try any of these wines, you really should.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. The No.16 has to be one of my top 3 bottles of 2010 so far. Creamy+saline, evolved+fresh – so much interest here. It only gets better once opened, after perhaps 24/48 hours in the fridge. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

I think it is important to serve these wines properly. Leave the ISO tasting sized glasses at the back of the cupboard and use a white burgundy glass to really capture the complexity and lushness.

  2. totally agree, Equipo Navazos make a big job in the last few years and give a push for Jerez.
have you tasted the dry withe wine produced in collaboration with Dirk Niepoort ?

  3. Totally agree, Jamie. I drank five of these with some friends over some very good Spanish food recently and they were exceptional: complex, intriguing, intelligent wines.
