A brilliant South African Sauvignon, The Infidel

When I bumped into Pieter de Waal in the Loire last month, he gave me a bottle of one of his wines to bring home. I am glad he did: it’s brilliant.

Hermit on the Hill The Infidel Sauvignon Blanc 2012 Stellenbosch, South Africa
Complex and engaging, this naturally fermented Sauvignon Blanc has a lovely nose of pear, grapefruit, white peach and spice. The palate is fresh and precise with lovely balance between the ripe pear and peach notes and the fresh citrus and herb characters. Lovely texture, depth and balance: a brilliant example of oaked Sauvignon that should age very well. 93/100

  1. Yes I love Pieter’s wines. So individual and slightly eccentric. Makes some great reds too

  2. Yes, I also really enjoyed that 2012 Infidel – it’s certainly off the beaten track. I’m not drinking mine anytime too soon, though.
