One of the Rieslings tasted on camera in my recent video clip, this is the well known Aussie, Steingarten, which now goes under the Jacob’s Creek label. Steingarten is not a single-vineyard, but instead a brand – the wine comes from a number of different sites in the Eden Valley. This is one to pop in your cellar and forget about for a decade. I’ve just written up an article on a mini-vertical of this wine on the main wineanorak.com site.
Jacob’s Creek Steingarten Riesling 2006 Barossa, Australia
This has an aromatic, fresh limey nose with some floral notes. The palate is powerfully flavoured with fresh lime and lemon fruit and taut herbal notes, as well as some pithy, spicy grip. A savoury, intense, bone dry wine with potential for development, though it is a teeny bit tough now. 91/100
