Some great, inexpensive Portuguese wines

I have been here in the Algarve for a few days now, and the great news is that you can buy superb Portuguese wines really inexpensively. With a budget of just 10 Euros a bottle, you can have a lot of fun. Here are a few, with more to follow.

Lavradores de Feitoria Tres Bagos Branco 2011 Douro, Portugal
A blend of Viosinho, Malvasia Fina and Gouveio. Fresh, bright and fruity with some pithiness. Lovely purity and a bit of minerality, with lively citrus and pear fruit. 88/100

Duas Quintas 2011 Douro, Portugal
This is just brilliant. Lovely nose is really aromatic with olive, cherry, meat and some floral notes. Sweet pure black cherry fruit on the palate with some olive notes, and some hints of young vintage Port. Essence of Douro. 92/100

Niepoort Dialogo 2011 Douro, Portugal
Aromatic with some sweetness, and cherry and plum fruit. Savoury, herbal notes too. Ripe yet pure and fresh with a savoury twist to the cherry and plum fruit. Just so drinkable. 91/100

Quinta do Vale Meao Meandro 2010 Douro, Portugal
I love this wine. Lovely black cherry fruit with some olive and meat notes. Dense but not heavy, with lovely floral Touriga notes as well as good structure and dense ripe fruit. A proper wine, and so much cheaper here in Portugal than in the UK. 92/100
