Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2011

Neudorf pinot

I’ve just published the first of two reports on New Zealand Pinot Noir, based on my visit there earlier this year, when I tried a lot of different Pinots. You can read it here – this first report lists just the wines that scored 94 points and above. Remarkably, there were 94 of them, and 33 scored 95  points or higher. That’s amazing.

Here’s a Kiwi Pinot I tried more recently. I actually drunk this one: it’s from Neudorf, in Nelson, one of the most interesting of all New Zealand wineries.

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2011 Nelson, New Zealand 14.5% alcohol. A lovely mix of red and black cherry fruits with some sappy, savoury, spicy notes and nice texture. There are hints of tar and bitter plums, as well as sweet fruit. Some warmth, too, with alcohol adding a touch of heat and sweetness, but there’s also lovely purity of fruit. There’s some non-fruit complexity and a bit of tannin, so may age really well. 94/100
