Flew into Blenheim, in the Marlborough wine region here in New Zealand this morning. It was a tiny 20-seater plane, buffeted around a bit by the blustery winter weather.
I visited Plant and Food Research, where I interviewed more scientists about Sauvignon Blanc. Pictured above is the experimental winery, where they make wines in even the tiniest lots for analysis.
I’ve learned a great deal about Sauvignon in the last few days. This evening a few of us went out for some dinner at the Dodson Street Bistro and Ale House, which is home to the Renaissance Brewing Company.
They very kindly let me taste through their range of wonderful craft beers. All are excellent; my favourite is the Discovery American Pale Ale, of which I had two very refreshing pints. Now I’m ready for bed. I might manage a few pages of Shampoo Planet first. Great book.

I am a huge fan of Renaissance. My latest column is on beer and apart from two Auckland craft beers (Galbraiths Munich Lager and Hallertau Pale Ale), my third selection is the Stonecutter, as a winter after dinner treat.
