This is nice. It’s a Pinot Noir from Gottardi, a grower in the northern Italian region of Alto Adige, which is often referred to by its Austrian name of the Südtirol. I love this style of lighter, more elegant red wine. I always seem to be in the mood to drink it.
Weingut Gottardi Südtiroler Blauburgunder Mazzon 2007 Alto Adige, Italy
14% alcohol. Pale cherry colour. Wonderfully aromatic nose of sweet pure cherry fruit with some subtle herbs, and a faint hint of mountain meadows. The palate is superbly open and elegant with fine, subtle tannins. Supple and well balanced with a silky texture and fresh, sweet red cherry fruit. A beautifully elegant, Burgundian wine – although it’s better than most Burgundy! 92/100 (UK agent Les Caves de Pyrene)
