This is an interesting new wine from Sicilian producer Planeta, who I visited a while back. It’s a posh version of their Cerasuolo di Vittoria, which is a deliciously fresh blend of Frappato and Nero d’Avola. For drinking now, I have to say that I prefer the regular version, but this may well develop nicely in bottle.
Planeta Dorilli Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico 2009 Sicily, Italy
Cherry red colour. There’s some sweet creamy oak here as well as bright, supple cherry fruit. It’s medium weight, aiming at elegance, but it needs some time for the oak to settle down. Potentially capable of real finesse with a few years in bottle, but I’m scoring this on its current performance. 88/100
