A stylish Rully from Devevey

Really like this wine. It’s a complex, rich white Burgundy from a relatively lowly appellation. Jean-Yves Devevey is clearly a talented winegrower – you just wonder what might happen if people like him were given custody of much smarter terroirs, currently in the hands of underacheivers. Also worth checking out is his slightly cheaper Hautes-Cotes-de-Beaune Blanc, which is pretty serious, too.

Jean-Yves Devevey Rully 2006 Burgundy, France
13% alcohol. Deep yellow colour. Rich, toasty, broad and nutty with complex honeyed, minerally, citrus pith, grapefruit and herb notes. It’s quite textured with a wonderful balance between the rich, almost exotic flavours and the taut citrus notes. A complex, thought-provoking white Burgundy of real appeal. 92/100 (£17.35 BBR)

Deveny is indeed a great Vig. super stuff across the range. Here in the cote Chalonaise they are well respected and always appear in the magazine as good value. £17.35 is a bit taking the proverbial though. Cripes its only a Rully, even though it punches way above its weight…

I would have thought £13.00 wd be nearer the mark as a price point. Still, as I keep poitning out to the Notttingham wine circle, in wine terms £10.00 is the new £5.00…!

Do look out for the Red too – do BBR do that as well?
