Tomorrow I am off to Tours with a crack team of tasters to judge some Sauvignon Blancs. I beleive that our crew includes Clarke, Metcalfe. Atkin and Harrop, among others. I’m lucky to be included!
In preparation, I’m tasting a rather good Sancerre. It’s nicely packaged and deliciously full flavoured.
Domaine Laporte Sancerre Le Rochoy 2010 Loire, France
13% alcohol. From a very flinty hillside. Fresh and intensely mineral with high acidity and grapefruit and lemon fruit. Concentrated, pure and piercing. A really impressive, bright, focused style of Sancerre. 91/100 (Jascots, although the wine is not yet on the website)
Hi Jamie
Do enjoy, i also just wanted to say that I like how you still consider yourself lucky to be included amongst such peers.
Maybe it shows a level of humility and a passion still burning bright.
All the best.
It is up on web site now and live!!Thanks for pointing that out Jamie and thank you for the mention. Have a great trip and enjoy. John Charnock.
It’d be great if you get the chance to taste some older vintages when out there; Sancerre seems to be one of those tricky ones where the most recent vintage often outshines its older peers, but no-one seems to consider how well Sauvignon ages.
