A chance to taste the new releases from Veuve Clicquot, both of which are really impressive. Caveat: these bottles had been open for a while.
The Vintage 2004 is quite deep coloured, and has lovely concentration of citrus fruit with some richer, toasty notes. Really great balance here, with quite powerful flavours. Lovely intensity. 93/100
The Vintage Rose 2004 has quite a deep pink/cherry red colour, with some orange notes. It’s rounded on the palate with nice fruitiness – subtle cherry and plum notes with a bit of toasty savouriness. Very appealing. 92/100

Back to form? Veuve has been dire lately. I used to love it, citrus and dough notes, like the fumes off orange marmalade on toasted homemade bread, but for whatever reason it became very featureless, just an orange pith note in something like flabby Cava. I hope they are back.
I like the 2004 Veuve. But even better was the 2000.
