Celebrating the Wine Blog Awards with Taittinger Comtes 2000

I was thrilled to find out today that I won an award. I was shortlisted in the ‘Best Overall Wine Blog’ category in the Wine Blog Awards, and the results were announced at the Wine Bloggers Conference in Portland yesterday evening: amazingly, I won.

So to celebrate, I cracked open a bottle of Champagne. Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2000. It’s just lovely. I recently tasted through a vertical of Comtes, and it confirmed just how good this wine is. So it was great to actually drink a bottle, which, at 12 years of age, is just beginning to show what it’s capable of.

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2000
12% alcohol. Full yellow colour. Rich nose of toast, pear and peach with some vanilla and spice. Quite exotic. The palate is richly fruited with a fine, toasty, spicy savoury undercurrent as well as citrus, pear and apricot fruit. Finishes taut with a subtle note of matchstick reduction. Quite vinous. 95/100

Very well done, Jamie. You certainly put a lot of time and effort into your blog and website, and it shows. And I like the way you’re sometimes prepared to tackle the more controversial issues, to take a stand, plus you have that reliable science background and still manage to sound so enthusiastic after so much time.

I get a lot out of it. Congratulations.

  • Congrats! Well deserved!

    Congratulations!
I enjoy your blog and all of your site, particularly the scientific and intentionally objective view you try to pursue.
    Keep it up

    Congratulations
Between your reviews, the thoughtful questions you pose for discussion and very well done science pieces, no other blog has near the depth and quality of your work.

    Congratulations, well deserved!

  • Excellent news! Well done Jamie

    Congratulations Mr. Goode

As far as your wine blog goes I have to say as far as all overall content, a good balance of science and layman’s language yours is the best around that I’ve found so far.

I especially enjoy the fact that you’re willing to try new regions and varietals in your tasting and posting. It seems to be an occupational hazard of certain wine writers, bloggers and critics to stick with what they know or are familiar with.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers!

Brilliant result Jamie and richly deserved recognition for all the hard work that goes into your blog and that makes it so readable. Bravo!
