Two Beaujolais, one nice, one thrilling

beaujolais 2010

Two more really good wines from the 2010 vintage in Beaujolais, one of which is thrillingly beautiful.

Yvon Métras Beaujolais 2010
12% alcohol. Pale cherry red in colour, this is beautifully perfumed with aromas of red cherry, floral notes and some white pepper, as well as citrus peel and spice. The palate is fresh and fruity with a citrus edge to the cherry fruit and some sappy green notes in the background. Fresh, elegant, sapid and brilliantly drinkable, this is quite profound. I am moved by it. 94/100 (UK agent Les Caves de Pyrene)

Antonin Rodet Beaujolais Lantignié 2010 Beaujolais Villages
12.5% alcohol. Bright aromatic nose with just a hint of bubblegum under the fresh cherry fruit. The palate is bright with peppery savouriness as well as vivid cherry and plum fruit. Pleasingly bitter on the finish, and showing a bit of grippy structure. 89/100 (Marks & Spencer)
