Aussie wine producer First Drop are fast becoming one of the cleverest at marketing their wines – even outdoing D’Arenberg. The good news is that the content of the bottle matches up to the ambitions of the packaging. This is a lovely Chardonnay, and the front and back labels are just brilliant.
First Drop Mere et Fils Chardonnay 2010 Adelaide Hills, Australia
13% alcohol. Hand picked, no sulfur dioxide additions unil bottling, whole bunch pressed, fermented with wild yeasts with high solids in barrel, 6 months of lees stirring. Restrained with lovely complex pear and citrus fruit. Very fresh with a bit of richness. Distinctly mineral with a bit of mealy, bready depth. Very stylish with nice precision. 92/100

Well, won’t be pairing it with fois gras anytime soon in California!
