A nice affordable Chinese red

Waitrose are currently stocking this rather nice Chinese red. It is made from the Cabernet Gernischt grape variety, a cross of Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc. I tasted another wine from this producer last year, which was similar in style.

Changyu Cabernet Gernischt Blend 2011 Ningxia, China

Video: tasting 3 beers, comparing beer glasses

Most readers will be familiar with the wide array of wine glasses on sale, and the art of matching the right wine to the right glass. Well, what about beer? I thought I’d try tasting some different beers using different speciality beer glasses, from Spiegelau. Here are the results.

These glasses are available from Around Wine […]

A decent Romanian red

This attractive, supple red comes from Romania, and more specifically from foothills of the Transylvanian Alps near Drăgăsani. It’s made from the native Novac grape variety; native grapes are the real focus of this domain, even though they have some international varieties planted. The Prince Ştirbey vineyard is 25 hectares, and it is now back in the family after being […]

Two games of premiership rugby and a feed, with good company and some nice wines. What’s not to like?

The Laithwaites contingent: Becca Reeves on her phone, and Tom and Henry Laithwaite

I even took some notes of the […]

A brilliant red for under £6

I’m always delighted to be able to find a wine that ROCKS for very little money. And here is one such wine. I tried a sample on Thursday, and returned to it today, and it had held up beautifully. And it’s currently on offer at £5.48 in Asda down from £7.48. It’s a sure fire […]

Some nice wine at the cricket

Great day out at the Oval yesterday, to watch the one day international between South Africa and England. I was with Justin Howard Sneyd of Laithwaites, and we were sitting on the first row of the OCS stand, which provided a great view, close to the action.

The game was enhanced with some lovely wine. First […]
