UK Vineyards

For those based in the UK, the good news is that you don't even have to go abroad to visit vineyards. Here are illustrated accounts of visits to four English wineries that represent a cross-section of the 200 or so producers from this country. For more information, or to plan your own trips, a helpful map is available from the UK Vineyards Association (Tel: 01728 638080 Fax: 01728 638442).

Denbies
The UK's largest commercial vineyard, with an impressive visitor's centre. Located near Boxhill in the South Downs, just outside the town of Dorking.
Coddington
A tiny 'back garden' vineyard and winery in the midlands making some impressive wines, showing once again that small is often beautiful.
Three Choirs
Another large winery that is proving to be one of the trailblazers in the English wine scene.
Sharpham
Set in an idyllic location on slopes overlooking the River Dart, near Totnes in Devon, this is an ambitious producer doing some good work.
